Travel Old world charm draws visitors to Nha Trang

Just five kilometers away from the heart of Nha Trang, a bustling beach town on the central coast, sits a new tourist attraction that evokes the quiet charms of Vietnam’s yesteryear.

“Old Nha Trang” is the brainchild of 33-year-old business woman Truong Dinh Ngoc, who has worked hard to revive the essence of Vietnamese traditional living space and lifestyle.

Housed on a two hectare lot in Vinh Thai Commune, “Old Nha Trang” features a seven room resort, a convention area for traditional wedding ceremonies and a restaurant which can serve up to 200 guests a time.

The main feature of the zone is a village of 11 old homes, which Yen has spent VND17 billion (US$ 952,968) to bring back to life.

Old Nha Trang also has a display section of traditional crafts which were used by Vietnamese households back in the day.

Although not officially open to the public, swathes of visitors, most of whom are foreigners, have been flocking to the site to get a firsthand look at a lifestyle that is so very foreign from the Vietnam of today.

Ngoc’s attraction isn’t the first in the country to plug into the old world sentimentalism that tourists are looking for. To date, old buildings, most owned by generations of Vietnamese, are being lovingly restored to their former glory and converted into quaint relics of the tourism industry.

A century-old French Colonial mansion in south central Khanh Hoa Province is also under going restoration to become part of a tourist zone to be open for visitors next month.
